In this digital age, it is absolutely imperative for your business to have an online presence. Whether it’s a website, social media profile, e-commerce site, or a combination of all of these, being online will provide you with major benefits. According to Google, 97% of consumers use an online platform to search for businesses – and if the majority of your potential consumers are online, you should be too. Even if your business does not conduct business online, your customers, current or potential, are expecting that you are online. If they do not see your online presence, you could be losing out on a big opportunity for sales or for word of mouth marketing. Having a strong online presence is crucial for your marketing strategy, no matter what size your business is or what industry it belongs to.

Two things – an online presence is important for outbound marketing because it reinforces your brand and what you have to offer. This type of web presence helps portray why your product/services are so great. Online presence is also important for inbound marketing because quality online content will help attract customers who haven’t heard of your brand.

Here are some other reasons why your business needs an online presence. Having an online presence makes it easier…. Easier:

1.       For Potential Customers to Reach You – Increase Accessibility

“Google it.” This is a term that we hear A LOT. If someone wants to know more about a business, they will most likely research online. Give your business the competitive edge by being online – potential customers will not put a lot of effort into finding you and they should not have to.

Example: Your business sells a variety of promotional products. A potential customer is looking at giveaways for their next fundraising event and needs to get some promotional pens. She uses her phone to search for “promotional pens in Edmonton.” Your company’s website is listed in the search result and after browsing your website, she finds what she’s looking for, and you’ve just earned a new customer!

2.       To Build Relationships with your Customers and Potential Customers

One online platform, social media, is all about building relationships and being social. This is true for both personal use and businesses alike. Social media allows your brand to be more “human” and relatable. They can interact with your business on a more personal level. It also allows you, as the business, to reciprocate by getting to know your customers. If you are not on social media however your competitors are, you are missing out on an opportunity to connect with your potential customers. It is one of the most simple and effective ways to get potential customers interested in your company and to form relationships.

3.       To Showcase Your Products/Services

The Internet is the most effective platform to showcase what your products/services you have to offer. With a few simple clicks, potential customers can see what you’re all about. They can even do this outside of business hours as the internet never sleeps! Through your portfolio, reviews, photos on Instagram of your newest products, it’s never been easier to advertise what you have to offer.

4.       To Market Your Brand

Not only are websites and social media platforms excellent marketing tools, they are also cost effective. You can send out information to thousands of people. Your online marketing is important because it has a huge influence on the way potential customers make purchasing decisions. Modern day consumers have even indicated that they look at a business in a negative light if they cannot find them online. You can also overcome the distance barrier as people thousands of miles away can be learning about your brand. Through social media, your fans can be sharing or re-posting your business and spreading the word. Never has it been so exciting to be able to market your brand in these creative ways!

5.       To Show You What Works and What Does Not

Marketing online allows you to see the effects of your efforts. Tracking analytics and data of your website and social media profiles is simple and then you can see the stats and proof of what is working and what does not work for your brand. Being able to see the results will allow you to make improvements in your business.

Example: If you share a new blog post and see a huge spike in visits, then you’ll recognize that you may have stumbled across content that your target audience likes to see.

Don’t be left behind. An online presence is one of the most important investments a business or brand can make. By maintaining your website, being active on social media and investing in SEO, you’ll be more accessible to a wider audience and more potential customers. You’ll be able to market more effectively and best of all, you’ll be able to make improvements in all these areas.  The benefits are endless!
